Christmas Jazz Concert

Sunday 9th December 2018 6pm

Come join with your fellow AGBC members and friends to celebrate Christmas on Sunday, December 9th at the Bad Homburg Castle.  We have secured a limited number of tickets to “Swinging Christmas” performed by the New Orleans Jazz Band of Cologne.  By great fortune, or Christmas magic, (or maybe a combination of both!) the Castle in Bad Homburg will also have its Christmas Market on that day.

The New Orleans Jazz Band of Cologne has over 60 years of history.  The Christmas-Jazz focused performance will begin at the Bad Homburg Castle at 18:00, and the cost is 30.00 Euros per guest.

The perfect timing of this concert allows guests to enjoy the beautiful holiday decorations and the ubiquitous Glühwein stands at the Castle – which are open from midday.

Interested members can learn more about the concert at: https://www.castle-concerts.org/konzerte-termine  and the Christmas Market at  http://www.weihnachtsstadt-bad-homburg.com

Economists Luncheon

 Wednesday, 19th December, 2018 – 12.00 Noon.

Is Trump weakening the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency? Is he actually pushing traditional Western-allies into the arms of ascending China?  The AGBC has invited Patrick Franke, Senior Economist Economics/Research at Helaba Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen, to address these and many other issues around Trump abandoning the traditional multilateral international system of rules that has benefited the US for decades.

Mr. Franke will address these other related issues at a luncheon on Wednesday, December 19 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Frankfurt.

According to Mr. Franke, President Trump has turned his back on many relationships and systems that have supported the US as an economic and political superpower for decades.  Mr. Franke believes this is exemplified most egregiously in trade policies, but also in other areas including Iran sanctions and treatment of NATO.

Mr. Franke asserts that President Trump’s actions with and against China could possibly cede global leadership to China rather than strengthen the U.S.  He will speak to if U.S. global leadership and that of the U.S. dollar are under threat from President Trump.

Mr. Franke was awarded his DiplomVolkswirt from Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt in 1995 and went-on to get a MA Economics from Boston College in 1997.  He joined Primark Decision Economics in 1997 as an Economist, and moved to Commerzbank in 1999 as Senior Economist.  Mr. Franke moved to Helaba in 2008 as Senior Economist.
